Photo Services

The beauty of digital restoration is the extent of the work done to your special photos is up to you. From a simple crease to water and mildew spots, most damage is reparable as long as there is enough original material to work with. Please read the following and look at the examples. The finished photos are enlarged so you can view the detail of the work. Compare the work with other restoration outfits. You can clearly see the quality of work and the care that goes into each photo.

Because we specialize in historic photo restoration, the examples are all of old photos. However, we do work on any photo, black & white or color, that needs sprucing up. A special photo that got into the hands of a child with a crayon can be repaired. Your high school graduation picture that became damaged moving can be repaired. The only hard part is deciding which photos to have done. For that matter, the cost is so reasonable, have them all done!

Generally customers with an old photo do not necessarily want it to look like brand new. The look of age adds to its charm. Color can be used t
o keep the old look while damage can be repaired. I would be happy to discuss the options with you after reviewing the photo.

Restoration

You may have a picture which has been damaged or a photo you would like to have manipulated.
The picture can be digitally restored, even if it's torn in half.

Creases, bends, tears, etc., in most cases can be fully repaired. Water damage and mold/mildew spots usually clean up nicely. If there is a section of the photo missing, it can usually be replaced. If there are large areas of damage or missing portions of detailed sections of the photo, it may not ever look like the original. An example of this would be a large crease over a small face of a person, loosing the detail of the face.

If you have a photo you would like to changed in some way, a portion of the image or a background removed for example, that can be done too.

Pricing - Because the cost of restoration varies with the extent of damage to the photo, we don't believe "fixed" prices are equitable. You may send the photo(s) to Aurora Studios and you will be given a free quote. If you decide not to have the work done, the photo will be mailed back to you at no charge. To get an idea of how much you can expect to spend, view the examples above. The examples show the extent of damage to each photo and how much was charged to restore them. The minimum charge is $15.00.

*Please note: Restoration includes color correction and cropping if desired. If you have a photo that only needs slight touch-up work and you would like cropped and/or enlarged, please see below.

If you would like an estimate for restore work, just send in the photo with this form. The photo will then be examined and you will be given a free estimate by e-mail, or phone. You will also be advised to what time frame to expect completion of the restoration. If you wish to have the work done you will go to the next step. Otherwise, your photo will be sent back to you at no charge.

If you choose to have your photo restored, you will need to make a deposit. This is typically half of the quoted price, the other half being due at the time of completion. You will also need to decide what format you would like the restored photo in. You'll find more info about media options on the Multi-Media page.
I can accept credit cards on large projects only.

Color Correction

Correct color or add a "sepia" tone to your yellowed and faded photos.

Yellowing and fading can be adjusted to your desired effect. You may want to rid the picture of yellowing completely or just reduce it, keeping the "old" look. Certain pictures such as portraits look very nice with a sepia tone, which is the reddish-brown tone seen in antique photos. If the picture is in color, it can usually be "spruced up" by brightening, darkening or altering the saturation.

Cropping / Enlarging

Your pictures can be cropped, enlarged, reduced, whatever you like.

Your picture can be cropped to your liking. Basic cropping can be done to reduce unwanted background and bring out subjects. In most cases a photo can be cropped to enlarge it which will show details you would normally miss in the small snap shot. This is especially helpful when making out faces of people in old family photos. Most client want their photos cropped and printed in standard sizes. If you have an odd shaped photo and would like to keep it the same shape, I'll quote you a print size.
